The Pac52 Class is pleased to announce our Official Class Schedule for the 2018 Season. This comes following two Owners meetings and an e-mail poll among the owners which gathered a consensus.
Along with agreeing on the schedule, the Owners have also elected to alter next years racing format to include short ‘Coastal Races’ in addition to the Windward/Leeward Buoy Racing. The Coastal Races will be featured during the regattas, with one day of each regatta set aside for this race. The Coastal Race will have a heavier weighted score and will be counted as part of each Regatta.Read article
Tom Holthus and Frank Slootman are fresh off a battle for supremecy in the latest Pac52 Class event at Long Beach Race Week, where Bad Pak pulled out a one point win over Invisible Hand. The Pac52 Class is in their inaugural racing season on the west coast racing in events from San Diego to San Francisco throughout 2017, with some non-class offshore racing in between.Read article
Three regattas in to the inaugural season and the Pac 52's have seen three different winners. The latest event in the 5 regatta itinerary, Long Beach Race Week, which saw greater pressure on and off the course, and glorious sun and excellent sea conditions. As the season has progressed, the crews and boats have gone through a rapid learning curve, with some crew and gear changes, some lucky breaks and some very unlucky ones.
The Pac 52's were in a 4 boat dog fight by race end on Friday which continued into Saturday Morning. Manouch Mosheyedi had enlisted the talents of Chris Larson to call the shots on Rio and was well in the hunt until some unfortunate structural issues developed in bow involving the jib lead ring and they were once again force to pull out of competition.
With just 3 boats on the course, it came down to a shootout between Bad Pak and Invisible Hand, which was all tied up 10-10 after 6 races with one race to go. Something had to give...Read article
Frank Slootman's Pac 52 Invisible Hand has completed a trifecta in the 1st offshore event in the boat's debut season, the SoCal 300. Monohull Line Honors, 1st in ORR Overall and 1st in ORR Div A! With a unanimous vote, the Pac52 Class members have established the Box Rule governing the configuration parameters of the Yachts. The numbers can be found on Page 4 of the Class Rules which are now onto Version 6.0. Another minor change in the Class Rules is a provision for reduced membership fees for teams only competing in a few races of a season.
The Pac52 Box Rule was solidified after over 6 months of evaluation and discussion amongst the four founding teams of the Class. Each parameter was heavily scrutinized with the goal being to make the Yachts as fast as possible while still keeping the rule open enough to allow Transpac 52s to modify their boats to become eligible to join the Class.Read article
Responding to the increasing demand from local SoCal and Newport Beach sailors for competitive one design off shore racing, The Newport Harbor Yacht Club will host the first annual One Design Offshore Championship June 9-11 in the waters off the Newport Beach pier. There will be three classes of J70s, J120s and Pac52s, including collegiate, Olympic, amateur and professional sailors, many of whom are using this regatta as a tune-up for Long Beach Race Week.Read article
Gavin Brady confirmed today with the Pac52 Class that the Beau Geste Pac52 will attend the 2017 Rolex Big Boat Series and Pac52 Cup at St. Francis Yacht Club in September. Beau Geste is owned by Karl Kwok of Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. The Yacht was designed by Botin and was built at Cookson Boats in 2016 next to her sistership Fox. Beau Geste will join the four other Pac52s Fox, Invisible Hand, BadPak and Rio at the regattas in the Fall.Read article
